hook-in check

Post by spark »

This video does not capture my first or only hook-in check. The video link is posted here to demonstrate my support for USHPA proficiency system ratings SOPs (e.g. USHPA SOP 104.07 7-A-8) and to demonstrate a hook-in check, seconds before ( i.e. just prior to ) launch.

http://www.johnheiney.com/HG_lessons/ushga_ratings.htm
With each flight, demonstrates method of establishing that pilot is hooked in just prior to launch.

Proned out and went to the basetube WAAAY too soon. Flagrant violation of the five second rule.

Hang Gliding, Day 15

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FoJoZ0fEDg

Another day of Scooter Towing at Wes/Mar. It was sunny but with winds 6-10 mph. I made an effort to land on the same spot every time but only made it within ten feet four times out of the seven attempts. I also had a line break on the first tow and made some meager efforts to find lift. Overall it was a good training session and a good exercise in ground handling.

Landings at:

00:32
04:18
07:50
10:46
14:45
18:17
21:20
Travis Burkhard

How did you trigger the release of the tow cable? In the past you were using your hands.
Scott Corl

The first flight was a tow line break. The end of the tow line has a loop through which the bridal runs. It can wear out if not properly inspected.

The shoulder is not torn, just strained.
Very glad to hear it. Hope it and the other one stay intact for many landings to come. Still think it would be a real good idea to take the cone out of the field though.
