The easiest way I've seen to tie a buntline hitch is demonstrated in this video:

The Reever knot, or bend:

Note that the Reever knot is symmetrical while the Vice-Versa isn't.

Here is an end loop knot that I really like:

I suspect that this would be a good candidate to use in place of a buntline hitch when using slippery line like Dyneema or Spectra.

Would anybody on this forum even think of anchoring a VG line like this?

My initial take was: Image...but after thinking about it a bit...

Looks tacky but to do it "right" you'd need to drill the plate, add some hardware, weight, labor, cost... The plate edges are undoubtedly sufficiently beveled such that the damage issue will be zero and the "weak link" for the line will be where it's jam cleated at full VG. So I'd grudgingly say yeah, that's the best way to do it.

I would have expected an elegant solution on a seven to nine thousand dollar glider. Like a two dollar stainless eye strap:

PS The other end of that line terminates onto a pulley becket inside the starboard control tube. Why they chose to put the tackle INSIDE a control tube is a mystery.

Thanks for the post. Useful information that I was previously unaware of. :D
