Interesting lyrics in that video, Miguel.
"Bullet And A Target"

Mr. Dali Lamas
Another sister's shootin' heroin tomorrow
Amputees in Freetown
Sierra Leone's
The church wasn't honest
The state put the youth in a harness
Creatin' hostility among us
Teacher said no college
Still the kid's gotta get a check with a couple commas
People wanna bomb us
More people gotta scatter and run from us
You can blame it on Zeus and Apollo and Adonis

But what you've done here
Is put yourself between a bullet and a target
And it won't be long before
You're pulling yourself away

But what you've done here
Is put yourself between a bullet and a target
And it won't be long before
You're pulling yourself away

I've been knowing her for years
I've been seeing her for years
She got dark, dark wavy hair
With a voice like she just don't care
She got a skirt with a halter top
She's got a dad who never gave a fuck
She drinks a beer with her mom 'til dawn
She got knocked up in a pickup truck
But she got engaged when she was nineteen
To this dude who was acting insane
Had a .45 that he always cleaned
Said one day one day one too many days
Now she ducked and she ran away
Never to be heard from, never to be seen
I check the cover of a magazine
I'm just wondering how, just wondering how

But what you've done here
Is put yourself between a bullet and a target
And it won't be long before
You're pulling yourself away

1992/05/06, Comet 165, Mother Vineyard, NE facing bluff near the north end of Roanoke Island, looking straight across the Sound at Jockey's Ridge State Park. Straight in but doing 20 to 35.

Used a truck tow bridle and three-string and a spool of 205 leechline as a towline. Upwind end was tied to the middle of a stick of driftwood. Tony Velte and Marcelo Zanetti grabbed the ends and hauled me up. Took five attempts to nail it due to wind cycles and less than great technique from Yours Truly a couple times.

Got up and they just flew me like a kite and backed me up into the lift band. Never got the chance to release - the "towline" blew at the Bowline at my end. Very rough air and at times I had to hold the bar stuffed just to maintain position. Maxed out at 200 feet. Arms got rubbery and I decided to call it a day nearing twenty minutes. Had a bit 'o trouble getting down.

Damn, that kinda stuff was fun! No fucking Jim Keen-Intellect Rooneys to protect us from ourselves and bestow us with his opinions on test pilots.

People did some awesome beach dune soaring and worked their ways up to hotels but I never managed to make it to the right place at the right time.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Prolly best of thread. I still have a Comet 165. Was a great bird.

I think that would be the safest, and most fun way to get up at Drakes Bay.

I agree. I always managed to launch there in ideal, mild conditions. Even when barely soarable that launch would pull me forward.

Wow! Four consecutive posts by three different members - none of whom were me! Gotta be some kind of record.

Thanks miguel. Yeah I loved that kite. First one I saw was Tom Haddon's soaring the dunes at Jockey's ridge. One issue with it though... Had that stupid "floating crossbar" concept with the deep keel pocket and loose sidewires. Didn't hurt its performance but reflected the fundamental misunderstanding of hang glider control which gave us Donnell's Skyting Theory of hang glider towing and still haunts us bigtime today. (Really need somebody to get to Jeffrey Roberson and explain to him why he's totally wasting his time with his "Lever Link" concept.)

Brian... Another cool video. I was planning on posting both of those here myself.

The site is Karioitahi, about thirty miles SSW of Auckland. Launch is at 37°17'12.53" S 174°39'29.33" E. (Thanks again, Google Earth.)

Steve and Brian... Drakes Bay...

We were rightly kicked out of Mother Vineyard 'cause launching from the bluff we were chewing up protective vegetation. But hand towing from off of the shore... No problem. Zero impact aviation - not counting the gas to get us across the bridge.
