Re: Releases
Do the first Overhand over the other end of the loop, flip the loop (yaw it 180 degrees), and tie the second Overhand exactly the same as you tied the first one. Gosh darn it, why did no one ever tell me that? That's the most important thing I've gotten from our discussions. OK, maybe not, but than...
Re: Releases
Welcome, Larry...good to see a post from someone other than Tad and me. Tad, if you put every post related to releases in this one topic, it's eventually going to get very hard for newcomers to follow it. I think the Shane incident discussion should have been a separate topic. We can create a 'Tow R...

Re: suspension
Do you want to be flying a harness that you hafta worry about when using a six hundred pound weak link? I'm just worried about the loops failing (after many tows), not the entire harness. It's a Lookout (GT) model. Although the loops are designed for surface towing, they don't do much surface towin...

A picture! Cool. Didn't think we could do that. We can't store images on this site (unless we pay), but we can embed images stored elsewhere using 'img' tags. To display a photo stored on Flickr, navigate to the photo's page and click 'Grab the HTML/BBCode' under 'Share this'. Select the desired di...
Re: Releases
Here's where I'm going with my questions. I've changed my aerotow release and weak links and now use weak links on both shoulders. I'm hoping to get a barrel release or two from you as well to replace my current secondary, but I wanted to finalize my revised setup plans first. With the aforementione...

Re: suspension
Get some truck tow loops on your harness. Already got some: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh173/zjc5387/hip_loops.jpg I run the lines from my carabiner through these loops. Why? Gregg suggested I do so to reduce stress on the harness and provide a more comfortable tow by reducing pressure on t...
Re: Releases
Tad, Thanks for the explanations. One more question...is the thimble required to use a Bridle Link, or would a Bridle Link thread through the eye of a conventional primary bridle without issue? I haven't been around truck towing in over sixteen years and haven't paid too much attention to it since t...
Re: Releases
And you could do a secondary weak link something like the last couple of photos... So you have a weak link around the thimble at the lower end of the primary bridle? Wouldn't this configuration negate the need for weak links on the secondary bridle? What kind of material would be appropriate for th...

Re: Releases
Yeah, but our swept wing IS a giant rudder... I'd disagree and say that our wing sweep acts more like a vertical stabilizer. The rudder is a control surface that gives the pilot yaw control (which we don't have and why we're considered two-axis instead of three). The vertical stabilizer isn't enoug...
