If you wanted to make a dangerous nose release you'd hafta engineer something that let go by itself at about twelve miles per hour airspeed.
A loop of 130lb Greenspot should do the trick.

P.S. Now don't be giving Sam any new ideas on ways to demolish his victims, Tad.

130 pound Greenspot... Why didn't I think of that?
- increases the safety of the towing operation
- no fuckin' way will it be able to pull a topless keel down enough to snap it
- a barrel release is a mechanical thing and all mechanical things fail
- prevents one from achieving dangerously high airspeeds
- very easily cut with a hook knife in an emergency situation
- proven system that works
- huge track record
- falling off the back of the truck is:
-- never more than an inconvenience
-- inevitable anyway so we can use lotsa practice to learn to do it properly
- Bob could easily create a graph illustrating how optimal it would be
- now that so many of us are happy with 200 there should be zillions of partially used spools of 130 available dirt cheap
- doubles as the best glider release in the history of hang gliding (undoubled, of course)

P.S. Anyone who associates with Sam deserves whatever happens to him.

I saw the same thing and had exactly the same reaction - but I'd prefer that he not be banned. I don't take banning or exclusion lightly and as crappy as his behavior was and is I'm not seeing it as quite making the bar. And if I were I might be inclined to deal with Christopher and Andreas first.

He can offer a token of appreciation for Tad's efforts on Jack's idiot asylum, then I'll flip the switch (or you can do it). How's that?

He won't. He almost immediately established that he has no soul. And offering a token of appreciation for Tad's efforts on Jack's idiot asylum is a banning offense over there - so that would mean bye-bye mutual masturbation society. And I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable inflicting that level of cruelty on him.

And I think the banning level should fall somewhere inside the rather narrow gap between him and Jeff. Not thrilled with seeing him on the roll but we can tolerate that much.

Considering the rules established here:
http://www.kitestrings.org/topic2.html
I recognize my action as mostly unjustified. I have unbanned No Soul (AKA Garrett Speeter).

Not entirely, there's a reasonably good case to be made. But...

2014/12/22 18:51:38 UTC - Garrett's first and only post.
2014/12/26 15:17:47 UTC - End of series in which he gets his issues and related ones addressed to death.
2015/01/22 18:56:20 UTC - Last logged in.

Garrett says:
I really want the pilot to have both hands on the bar at all times.
but then totally ignores Aleksey's efforts to get the Russian release into circulation over here. (Just 630 miles from Fairbanks to Russia, by the way.)

That's way beyond the fuckin' pale. Kite Strings is going for quality, not quantity. Cutting his wire was definitely the right call - I balked mainly 'cause I mostly was the offended party. Go ahead and click him back out where he belongs.

I see no clear/definite evidence that Garrett broke site rules, and even if he had that would not be justification for banning without further discussion.

My knee jerk reaction to give him the boot was not well thought through.
