Yes, the truckers hitch was what I used.

When I was just starting and had no 4wd, I had to bum rides up the hill. You had to untie the other gliders, put yours on, then retie them. More than once, I saw the rope loosen and the gliders slide off the truck. Scorn was heaped heavily upon whomever tied it last. I tied mine with super knots to make sure the gliders did not fall. Scorn was heaped upon me when I was busily trying to untie the knots while others were setting up. Somebody showed me the slipknot. Being paranoid, I figured out how to tie up the bight for insurance. I used that ever since. I never knew the knot had a formal name.

I will have to work on Ian's knot as it did not work first time

Grammar Nazi time...
...upon whomever tied it last.
The clause - in red - is the OBJECT of:
Scorn was heaped heavily upon...
but the guilty individual is the SUBJECT of the clause. So that overrides. Whoever tied it last. Whoever tied it last had scorn heavily heaped upon him.

I pondered over that one for a minute. I knew there was a problem, but was in a hurry. I usually google grammar before submitting.
c'est la vie
google was my friend on that
