Taking no chances.

Duncan Nash, a fellow flyer, pointed out to me the other day that some insurance companies are very particular about recovering vehicles with large front and back overhangs.

I'm taking no chances.

It's good being a hang glider pilot again, wherever I went today there were lots of friendly people vigorously waving and shouting words of encouragement, I couldn't hear too well 'cos I had the radio on but I think they were shouting something like "Take off you brave trucker."

Picking up from:
http://www.kitestrings.org/post8733.html#p8733
and subsequent posts in the Welcome thread...

Got another bird - same species, weakly alleged male (Quinn), 101.5 grams, 2013/09/04 hatch date, ugly clipped primaries - this morning. Craigslist ad, southeast of Baltimore (just east of Martin State Airport - total bitch to get to - even with GPS and careful study the night before), two previous owners, only two months with the last 'cause he was too loud for the apartment - so I don't hafta feel guilty about helping fuel the domestic parrot overpopulation crisis.

Wasn't a joyous occasion 'cause I knew it would bring the horrible memories back into sharp focus - but the daily emptiness of the house was doing that anyway. This was something I made myself do - as opposed to something I felt compelled to do.

Quinn was obviously hand reared and imprinted the way pet/companion parrots are supposed to be, in contrast to my previous who pretty obviously wasn't, and is outgoing, affectionate but also territorial, aggressive around the cage, as my previous was also. Got a pretty good hole punched in a finger during the drive home but he seems to be getting the idea doing that to me is gonna get a moderately unpleasant response.
...
Back after a long interruption, been through a lot of repetitions, he's already figured out that things will go a lot better for both of us if he doesn't bite.

Still will need a lot of work but these guys are incredibly intelligent and perceptive and I think I'll be able to establish the kind of rapport I had with his predecessor with a little time, effort, and luck.

That is great news, Tad. It sounds to me like Quinn has got himself another human. :D
