I do not believe anything else could have been done after launch to prevent the accident. Once the tow line was connected incorrectly his fate was sealed and any other pilot would have met the same fate.

I get tired as hell "refuting" all these mouth release and "strong link" arguments.
I like how he already put "refuting" in quotes for us.

The shit works. It works in reality and it works consistently.
Adam Parer, 11/25/2009

Due to the rough conditions weak links were breaking just about every other tow and the two tugs worked hard to eventually get everyone off the ground successfully.

Poll on weaklinks

Bobby never cores too hard. The hang glider pilot just doesn't keep up with him.

YOU are the one arguing with a system that's been in place and has been worked on over quite literally HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of tows.

I use the brake lever too and like it, but it's my understanding that they are getting harder and harder to find.

"The glider pitched up.
The glider stalled.
A standard 130 pound test weak link was being used.
The weak link broke.
So what?
...
I can't see how the weaklink has anything to do with this accident."

The Worlds - weaklinks
Davis Straub - 2005/02/07

For a couple of years I have flown with a doubled weaklink because, flying with a rigid wing glider, I have found that there is little reason to expect trouble on tow, except from a weaklink break.
