landing

Skyting Don Boardman 1982/12 Saturday, myself and Dan Guido, a Hang IV and instructor from Mohawk, New York, 35 miles from Rome, spent the afternoon in final preparation. Both Dan and I had received a day of tow training at High Perspective in Toronto on September 21. We used a traditional V-bridle ...

You are NEVER hooked in.

http://www.hanggliding.org/viewtopic.php?t=20339 FTHI Scot Huber - 2011/01/02 21:38:28 UTC Santa Rosa, California Risk Management Two years ago at age 55 I launched unhooked at McClure. The wind had been blowing in perfect at launch as we set up. Me, KM, and I forget who else were there. The land ow...

Re: Releases

I'd disagree and say that our wing sweep acts more like a vertical stabilizer. I stand corrected and enlightened and am now more inclined to believe that we are seeing adverse yaw in the video. Cool. I always wanted to believe that we could achieve some measure of yaw control by torqueing our baset...

Re: Cutting the line

After World War I Germany got treated like total shit. That was a really bad idea 'cause it really pissed them off and resulted in Hitler and World War II. BUT - as I'm sure you know... They were forced to take all the propellers off their planes so they went nuts on glider development and refinemen...

Re: Cutting the line

Zack C - 2010/12/23 04:12:15 UTC Regulation might sound good in theory, but I for one fear it and believe the FAA has too little understanding of or interest in our activities for any additional regulation to be beneficial. - Hell, USHGA doesn't have enough understanding of or interest in hang glid...

Re: Releases

Can't it be both? Yeah, it can be anything. I'm starting to get out of my depth pretty fast here but I don't worry about it much 'cause - if anything - it's a glider manufacturer issue, I can't do anything about it, and I have NO complaints about the way they're doing their jobs - beyond not offeri...

Re: Releases

About John Woiwode, I read his account just yesterday when going through accident reports in your FAA document. My reaction was, 'nah, surely he doesn't mean he was aligning with the road in a crosswind...' Apparently he DOES. (And don't call me Surely.) Donnell Hewett - 1982/11 Some of you have wo...

Re: Cutting the line

Lockout Larry... Oops. Zack C - 2010/11/17 14:50:34 UTC Seems like every week something happens relevant to the discussion we've been having. Here's a report from a friend flying at Lookout this past weekend: I towed out behind (n-s) Pablo ok till I got above the trees, then I got hit by a strong gu...

Re: Weak links

Thanks for the 'center of mass' debunktion. I've always felt the glider is easier to control (more stable) when towing two-point, but I suspect that's just because it dampens pilot input or something. I've never used a Skyting bridle but I've heard they 'tow nicely', but again, I suspect it's just ...
