Re: Releases

There was apparently an incident at Highland on or around November 8th.

A lockout occurred around 400' followed by a low level chute deployment & minor injuries.
It appears she could not get to her release in time.
Details are not available.

Re: launching

- Wouldn't that imply that everyone on her crew was at fault for not helping ensure that her glider was positioned properly forward out in the turbulent jet stream and trimmed nose down I was there for the 40th but did not fly. I expected to see a professional wire crew at one of the oldest HG site...

Re: ADVISORIES

I didn't know this was a prototype.
John said he won it or that it was given to him.

Also...I think Lookout Mountain sells the rope pull and Blue Sky sells the handbrake one.
I don't know what Wallaby sells.

Re: photos

Tad, Out of extreme curiosity, do you have any idea what the make and model of the glider is I'm flying? BTW...I have my 1st rating card from the USHGA somewhere & have been trying to find it. Surprisingly, Kitty Hawk Kites kept excellent records and can readily access them from that time. They ...

Re: Kaluzhin Release as Primary w/ 2 Pt. Bridle Setup

From what I've seen at the tow park, all Falcons, Eagles and about 1/2 of the S2 pilots use a 2 point setup. It appears U2 & T2 pilots are comfortable enough flying in the low 30 mph range with a 1 point. I think pilots who are either learning AT or who have low hours behind a tug may benefit fr...

Basically it does this... http://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4433/35531445133_87c70f9bdf_o.png https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4433/35531445133_f14d102e8a_c.jpg Imagine now, where the bare cable is in this picture, there is in its place the housing that has slipped forward. Easy fix really... Weld a cable s...

Re: Kaluzhin Release as Primary w/ 2 Pt. Bridle Setup

For off the shelf, or close to it, two point solutions I'd still recommend Joe Street's: I have one I'll sell you cheap. I heard of a failure to release malfunction regarding the Joe Street device. John Alden of WesMar Aerodrome reported that he quit using his after the "fishing pole thread wr...

Re: Kaluzhin Release as Primary w/ 2 Pt. Bridle Setup

The original release you get is on top and you can get them here... http://mouthrelease.com https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4778/39129379840_4666575b55_o.jpg To make a 2 point one you need about 6' of SPIRAL WOUND cable housing. (Not SIS type) & with a Teflon liner. A standard bicycle derailleur c...

Kaluzhin Release as Primary w/ 2 Pt. Bridle Setup

https://youtu.be/SpYdb-aIn6I I am very happy to report that it has worked flawlessly for 20 tows and expect it to work the same in the future. I feel confident enough now to recommend it for the following reasons. #1 Hands Free Operation * Instant release from lockout with both hands on control bar....
