Re: instructors and other qualified pilot fiends

http://www.hanggliding.org/viewtopic.php?t=34329 1st aerotow lessons Jim Gaar - 2016/05/24 14:55:54 UTC Don't know if they "offer" any type of Chase-the-Ace, but if they do TAKE IT! I was challenged by the late Les Taff to a Chase-the-Ace flight as she thought I was not as good as I said I...

Re: Weak links

Being a relatively new airtow pilot, my wife was warned about several tug pilots. This one is heavy on the Dragonfly and tows fast. That one isn't a hang glider pilot and is used to towing banners, not people. In time she was towed by most everybody. Compared to what we are accustomed to, tows were...

Re: Releases

Either way it seems a release issue to me. If the release was functional why would you want a weaker weak link? My skiing buddy used to crank his binding adjustment all the way down. He used to say... "The only way your skiis should come off is when the ski patrol removes them, before they loa...

In that case...

The 2 point looked like the hand brake variety.
If it was a lockout then it was a release issue.
(also maybe a tow operator for not decreasing tension sooner)

Re: Releases

Officials said Tomas Banevicius of New York was killed during his third flight of the day. Reports didn't list his hometown but said he was about 35 feet in the air when the craft fell to the ground nose first. Not a fan of using any weak link during scooter towing. My guess is that it broke with a...

Re: landing

300' x 600' if not a slot. A football field wide by two long. Hope the crosswind isn't too problematic. I don't believe a good answer can be given in dimensions because there are too many factors. Crosswind is a huge factor. I can rate the LZs I have experience with & maybe you can find a patte...

Use these large foam boulders instead.

Much more realistic without the consequences.

Re: Releases

The Kaluzhin shines in one point surface (aero if you must) operations but adapting it for two point / frame mount is a move in the wrong direction. I'm quite happy with my 2 pt. mouth release even though there is that length of cable in the airflow. The S2 trims very well with the recommended keel...

Re: Releases

Now imagine it attached to the keel and activated by a VG like rope on the left side (with a split collar bushing or similar). It would function like a dead man switch in that all you have to do is let it slide through your fingers. http://www.ruland.com/images/heavy-duty-shaft-collar-2pc.jpg https:...
